I don’t need anything for Christmas. I don’t even want anything. I asked for Home Depot cards. GLAMOR. And Mike and I aren’t doing gifts, only stocking stuffers. We decided to do this because neither of us need a thing. And when we do need it, we buy it. So I am grateful that we can do this and I am grateful that we are able instead to spend that money on a fun day and night downtown the day after Christmas. We are seeing the Trans Siberian Orchestra at the Q in the afternoon, followed by some dinner and drinks and some casino time. I’m excited to see the original Higbee’s decorations they found in storage and have pulled out to decorate the Horseshoe. So needless to say, I am looking forward to spending our money on a great day and experience rather than a bunch of sweaters and crap that we don’t need. So this wishlist, is a random list of some funny, awesome and dreamy stuff that I clearly don’t need but enjoy looking at. And besides, you know you always buy yourself something during the holidays while shopping for others so maybe you will find something you need.

Happy holidays everyone. Wrap your shit.

FROM JOSIE MARAN COSMETICS

THINK: Luxury with a conscience, beauty for a cause.

WHAT THEY ARE: Three Model Citizens.  Three charities to support.  Three bottles of Limited Edition 100% Pure Argan Oil.  It takes more than a pretty face to be a model citizen—but in the case of supermodels Josie Maran, Petra Nemcova and Angela Lindvall, it sure helps. They may be famous for their beauty, but these three activists are committed to improving the world we live in, bringing new meaning to the term “model citizen.” That’s why the eco-beauty maven behind Josie Maran Cosmetics tapped fellow models Petra Nemcova and Angela Lindvall to join her in creating limited edition artwork for the bottles of her signature Argan Oil to benefit the causes they believe in. Launching in conjunction with Earth Day, each of the three limited-edition designs supports a cause close to one of the model’s hearts.

“Living in a sustainable, earth-friendly way that benefits the planet has always been an essential part of beauty for me,” explains Josie Maran. “Petra and Angela are also so dedicated and passionate about the causes they support, and I wanted to share our enthusiasm with the world. We want to encourage everyone to join us in becoming ‘model citizens,’ and the limited-edition Argan Oils are a great place to start.”

I was sent a a bottle of the Model Citizen Argan oil designed by Angela Lindvall, more information on Angela and her charity below, and I have to admit that my first reaction was what will I DO with this? My skin and hair tend to go towards the oily side so I initially thought, what can this oil do for me? Well, I found out it can do a lot. I used the oil on my dry elbows and knees, smoothed a dab through wet hair for extra softness and used some for nighttime skin conditioning. Not only is the oil 100% natural, there is virtually no smell and I was not left with a greasy film after use.  I was especially surprised and pleased that the oil did not gunk up my hair or make it limp. For me, the oil isn’t something that I would use daily, but I think that the Josie Maran product is great for integration into your existing routine. Also, 10% of all proceeds from the limited edition oil goes to benefit the charity noted on the packaging. Can’t beat that!

ABOUT ANGELA AND HER CHARITY:

Angela Lindvall is a supermodel, actress, mother, an active environmentalist and a health advocate.

Healthy Child Healthy World ignites the movement that empowers parents to protect children from harmful chemicals by expanding awareness of unnecessary toxic risks to children’s health, encouraging easy actions and responsible lifestyle choices, advocating for corporate policies and government legislation that protect children from environmental health risks and engaging communities to take collective actions to create a healthier world.

About the Design: “The simplicity of the dandelion symbolizes what I would like for the future of our planet: an environment free from toxins and harmful chemicals that grows and exists peacefully, and the promise of hope for the children of the world. From an early age, we’re taught to wish on dandelions and I hope to inspire people to remember to be positive and to always look forward.”

Disclosure: I was provided products in exchange for my review. All opinions are my own.

For the longest time I have refused to use drugstore soap. I like fancy soap. Soap with pretty packaging and strange names. Handmade or imported, it doesn’t matter. I just like fancy soap. Something about it is not only cooler, but also more fun to use. I also love mini hotel soaps and used to collect them as a kid. Strange I know.

Marshall’s has a great selection of these, as does Etsy and all kinds of local stores. Sephora is also great too for a more of the high end choices. Also lush.com too! AMAZING.  The more interesting the better in my opinion, I love opening a new bar. And yes, often times, they can be gross, (homemade chocolate chai for example that I got in Houston was GROSS). I’ve even seen bacon scented. NO THANKS.  Anyways, if you are tired of the same old body wash or the same old anti bacterial, try something new, not from the drugstore, your skin and your fancy side will thank you. : D

Anyone who fills up shopping carts on http://www.sephora.com knows half the fun is choosing three samples at the end of your shopping trip. SO fun. It’s brilliant marketing in my opinion, becuase a lot of the samples are products that most shoppers may not have ever even used let alone heard of. That’s how my last sample experience with Sephora ended. One of the samples I chose was by the company Fresh, (whom I had never really heard of), and the product was called Twilight Freshface Glow.  More than just a highlight cream, Twilight Freshface glow is an awesome primer to throw on before foundation or powder. After using it for a bit, I would even say it’s doable to wear alone on the face. My skintone is often uneven, and this really helped to balance.  I also found, when running low on the bottle, that using  just a bit on my cheekbones and under my brows, the product worked perfectly to add just a dash of shimmer and brightness to my face.  After application, my skin was smoother, even, and my pores were minimized on my nose.  And who doesn’t love a little shimmer and glow? The $36.00 price tag for the full sized product may seem a little steep, but considering how little is actually needed to achieve awesome results, it all evens out. A drop smaller than a dime is all you even need for all over coverage and if you are only using Twilight Freshface Glow to highlight, you need even less. (Fresh also makes a primer with bronzing action, High Noon Freshface Glow and also one for the smoothing of imperfections, Rose Freshface Primer. )And to the best of my knowledge, aquired from trolling the makeup aisles at a few different stores, there really isn’t a comparable product available. So if you are looking for smooth, even, and radiant skin, this product by Fresh is for sure worth the money.

“Beauty to me is about being comfortable in your own skin. That, or a kick-ass red lipstick.”

Gwyneth Paltrow

I’ve been on a lipstick kick. As I mentioned in my post about fashion resolutions, I am vowing to wear red lipstick at least once a week. In 2010 so far I have succeeded on this quest. I went to MAC a few years ago when I needed a red one. You cannot buy it on your own. You can, but chances are, the red is wrong for your face. The girl at MAC asked me “Do you want Marilyn red or Madonna red?”. I opted for Marilyn red. MAC Amplified to be exact.  And I have not been disappointed. The thing with red lipstick is you have to wear it, not let it wear you. Which can be a daunting task. Red lipstick works better and holds longer with lip liner and the rest of your makeup must be pared down so you don’t end up looking like a clown.  The best way to maintain your red lipstick without ending up without it all over your face? Don’t eat, drink, smoke, and keep a mirror handy for check ups. Yeah. While rocking your totally confident lipstick you want to sit there completely paranoid that you have red goo all over your face.  I don’t think so.

So. In 2010, I am on a mission to find a lipstick THAT STAYS. I mean there HAS to be one. In movies, they can’t POSSIBLY stop the take to reapply or edit out lipstick marks on glass every TWO SECONDS do they? Maybe they do.  But I’ve seen people smoke and LEAVE NO RESIDUE. So there must be one. It will be my makeup Holy Grail. To find one that can get me through a few hours and a cocktail or two.

I asked my friend Lindsay, who ALWAYS is put together classically with just a dash of perfectly applied lipstick. She gave me two suggestions that she swears by, (one made it through her wedding day successfully). So I will take her advice and look into/purchase.

I also plan on asking everyone else I know whose lips don’t end up all over their face if they have any trade secrets. I will find the answer. I will. :)

My eyes always are attracted to bright bold colors and lots of glitter and glam. Usually, in reading fashion magazines, these are the most expensive items on the page. my OMG I love it!! Is usually followed by HOLY SHIT IT’S $1200!! Next. So, because I always do this, I decided to make a completely false Christmas list of my most coveted items of the season. And by coveted I mean, FANTASY items.

Enjoy. And feel free to tell me yours.
