Sit Down, and I Shall Tell You a Tale
There are not enough hours in the day.
For hours, I wish to be able to sit: unmoving, free of distractions, and so engrossed that my brain HURTS when I stop.
This is what awaits me.
And when I start and finish each one, I will be ecstatic.
And I will happily look forward to creating the next pile to devour.
Mind Racing
I can’t focus today. I woke up early, worked out, listened to some music, and am now at work completely in mental shambles. Mind is racing a mile a minute. I’m in a great mood, so nothing is wrong, it’s just that every single dormant thought in my head decided to wake up. And they all decided to wake up at one time. It’s a giant cluster of sounds, images, ideas, stories, and thoughts. I’ve been feeling uninspired and unmotivated lately, so maybe it’s time to kick start a bit of creativity. Maybe the 47,000 in my head are trying to get out for a reason. Quiet the beast as it may be.
Thoughts on a Thursday
**www.solestruck.com is the best shoe website there is. Search by your size in the sale section. I have like 10 things on my wish list.
**Went to a free lecture at the Cleveland Art Museum last night on Egyptian art. I’ve always been a fan of all things Ancient Egyptian so this was great and very interesting.
**Looking up honeymoon destinations makes me want to be there NOW.
**It’s really sweet when you find and article of clothing you have been looking for FOREVER. Now, they won’t have my size lol.
**I’m super antsy today.
**I don’t like that a lot of blogs I have followed for years suddenly have turned into “Daily Outfit” sites. I don’t CARE where your t-shirt is from or how COOL you think your flower headband is, I want to know what you are DOING. ANNOYING.
**This full moon has REALLY made all of the crazies come out.
**I need a spa day.
**It’s funny how when you have to go somewhere you don’t want to, it can ruin your day.
**Certain songs will always remind me of very exact people.
**Reality TV “stars” bother me.
**because I follow Paris Hilton on Twitter, my day is often ruined while I am in a cube and she is on a shopping spree at Chanel.
**I am ready for football season. GO BROWNS.
**Jimi and Kat let me borrow about 7 books yesterday. I firmly intend to read them all before school starts on August 30th. GO!
xx
Interview with Devi Crump of Rock La Chic
I interviewed Miss Devi Crump of the design team Rock La Chic for www.fashionablycleveland.com
Devi was super sweet and the girls of Rock La Chic will be feautured in a fashion show at Lake Erie College on March 25th. Check it out if you are able!!
There’s nothing more I love than hearing about talented people working together in Cleveland. Make that BEAUTIFUL, TALENTED, and FASHIONABLE people and it’s even better. In interviewing model/designer Devi Crump of the local design team, Rock La Chic, I found that fashion is alive and well in Cleveland even though people may think differently. This fresh face for the local fashion industry took the time to answer a few questions and preview an upcoming fashion show at Lake Erie College on March 25th. I look forward to hearing much more from Devi and the girls of Rock La Chic. Be sure to check them out.
How did you get into modeling? I’ve always been interested but was just to shy. I entered a modeling contest my freshman yr. of college. I didn’t win but I gained a lot of confidence and started working with local photographers in the Akron and Cleveland area.
Tell me about the Rock La Chic design team and how you all got started? My friends La’Toya, Jazzmine, and I just decided to put our talents together. There are a lot of talented people who do what we do alone, but how many fashion designers, make-up artist, and hairstylists put their talents together around here? So Rock La Chic was born and our talents compliment each other very well. Check us out http://www.wix.com/DeviCrump/RockLaChic
Where do you pull inspiration for your shoots from? How much say do you have in them? To me the shoot depends on the outfit the model is wearing. First I create the outfit then Jazzmine and La’Toya put together great hair and make-up to go with it.
Who is your favorite fashion designer? Who is your favorite model? Heatherette are my favorite designers and Adriana Lima is my favorite model.
What inspires you? How do you regain your creativity if you feel uninspired? Everything around me inspires me. When I get designers block I look outside, watch TV, read etc.
When designing your clothes, do you sit down and plan it out or do the designs just happen as you start to work? I just make it up as I go along its more fun and exciting that way. When I make a custom outfit for a client that has to be planned out though.
What do you like about the fashion scene in Cleveland and what would you change? Right now I’m not too happy with it. I wish people would be their own person and have their own style instead of copying someone else’s. I think a lot of people don’t wear what they want or like because they are afraid of what others will say.
What is your favorite trend of the moment/Least favorite trend? Leggings are my favorite and Crocs are my least favorite they are just so ugly to me.
What advice do you have for people who want to break into the fashion business? Don’t be afraid to be different and stand out.
Do you think Cleveland is an untapped market for talent? Oh yes, I see and know so many talented people here I hope everyone reaches their goal and captures their dream.
What is one accessory you can’t live without? What is one beauty item you can’t live without? I HAVE to wear earrings I feel naked without them even in my sleep and lip gloss is the beauty item I need always no one likes dry lips.
Tell me about the upcoming show on March 25th at Lake Erie College.
Well I can’t say too much but it is a circus themed fashion show and my scene is called Paper Dollz I couldn’t really afford too much fabric so I decided to use something else. J

Everyone is a Copy
People pull and create and learn from humanity. There is no denying it. Art imitates life. And people imitate art. And people imitate people. Thus. Lives, dreams, and interests are copied. You get it.
The thing is I see people who copy things and take them as their own. Like they discovered a magical secret. And that secret isn’t really a secret when everyone else in the world knows it too. We live in a world of massive exposure and media saturation. There is little to hide. People that pride themselves on individuality appreciate compliments, mild imitation, and flattery. Not blatant copies of themselves. Also, resentment often pops up as some artistic copiers RESENT the awesome things these people do because their own lives and self-esteem are so bleak. We are all unique.
Here’s a novel idea: How bout being happy with yourself and be happy FOR others?
A few tips:
Create your own art. Daily. Be happy with YOUR own existence and if you are not CHANGE IT. The world is NOT out to get you, be out to get the world. Pull inspiration from the musicians, artists, bloggers, friends, strangers, that you admire, learn from them, but do not copy them. Work to find your own place that encompasses you and all that you love and admire. Stop being hard on yourself and in turn stop being hard on those you can learn from.
Essentially, life is too short to be miserable.
People need to be made more aware of the need to work at learning how to live because life is so quick and sometimes it goes away too quickly.

2010 Fashion, the Only Resolutions I Make
Often times people, myself included, fall into routine. Routines can overtake spontaneity and daily fashion often falls victim to routine. A hoodie, Converse, and jeans are often my staple outfit for running errands. Jeans, boots, a scarf, and a cute coat often are my outfit of choice for an evening out. I have accessories, I have dresses, skirts, tights, heels, and yet, I all too often reach for the jeans and flats. Or my trusty Converse. So for 2010 I resolve to clean up my act a little bit. Work on REFINEMENT. And I’m not saying throw on khakis, a scoop neck, and pearls kinda refinement (BARF), I’m talking pieces and parts to pull myself together a bit more even when I’m not going to an event. I think I just want to institute a bit of glamour, even if it is only a Wednesday.
1. Dress up on Sundays. Even if I’m in jeans, maybe some heels for errands, just to add some spunk to a lazy day. Maybe even some BIG hair.
2. Red lipstick and fake eyelashes together at least once a week.
3. Get away from comfy pants and tee to bed. I can do better than that. My summer nighttime attire is way better, and I live in Cleveland. So warm and sexy options are WAY limited. Seriously, Google, sexy, flannel pajamas and you will come up with NOTHING.
4. I can dress casually at work. While this is a great freedom, I feel as if I have let it determine my workplace attire a little too much. It really doesn’t take much to look polished for work, even if I’m not wearing black pants and a dress shirt, (my least favorite outfit of all time), I can still throw on a fun dress and accessories. Even if my 8 hours is long and boring, at least I can still look good.
5. Look to more than fashion magazines for inspiration. I love street style blogs that take pictures of real people, in real outfits. I need to pay more attention to what people have on, how they put it all together, and make notes on what stands out to me. I need to also pay more attention to art and design for ideas. No, I will not end up in Lady Gaga type outfit, but I can use these inspirations to expand my color schemes and usual patterns.
6. Dress up once a month and do something fancy. Or just have a dinner party and dress fancy. Anything, I always say when I buy a house, my housewarming party will be an old fashioned cocktail party. Cocktail dresses, highballs, and finger sandwiches. Old school glamour. I wish people dressed up for dinner, the theatre, and concerts like in the old days. Think about it, EVERYONE looks better dressed up. So once a month, I want to get all glammed out. Even if I just have people over to party.
7. Do my hair more. I know that sounds simple and stupid, but my hair is often an unruly mess of waves and straight pieces. It’s thick as hell, and actually DOING it requires more time than I often like to spend on something like that like. Usually, its dry, tease a bit, some hairspray and out. I can do better. Headbands, flat iron, hairbow, scarves, hats. I can make it work. So I am going to make a conscious effort to do so.
What are your 2010 fashion resolutions?
