Monthly Archives: March 2012

A couple weeks ago I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to head to the ultra beautiful Spa West in Westlake to cover the One Styling event that was being thrown to help spread the word about exciting new products to Northeast Ohio Bloggers. I was there covering the event for Fashionably Cleveland so this post is basically just a totally basic preview, with shoddy iphone photos to round it out. I promise the official article will have better pictures : ). I sipped champagne, chatted with local bloggers that I was pumped to meet, it’s always nice to put a face with a blog or twitter name and had my hair styled by Pete, who was amazing. It was an awesome way to spend a Friday night for sure. One of the coolest parts of the evening was seeing how everyone’s hair turned out. Everyone in attendance had different lengths, textures and styles of hair so seeing what magic all the same products could work was really great. I have never been good at hair and let me just tell you the bubble wand is seriously the most amazing product I have ever used. But that’s enough for now. I’ll keep you posted on the article for Fashionably Cleveland!

It would appear that Spring has arrived in beautiful Cleveland, Ohio! Setting records for consecutive days of above 70 degree days sure is a welcome change from what we are used to here. It seems that everyone has been in a mad scramble lately to update their wardrobes (majorly guilty of this myself) and their Spring beauty routine. It’s time for shimmer, gloss and bright colors that are EVERYWHERE it seems. I love it. It’s no secret that I love and use the Rimmel London line, so I was more than happy to review some great products that are part of the Spring 2012 line.

I can’t leave the house without eyeshadow. I’m sorry, I can’t. So when I was sent three Glam Eyes HD Eyeshadows to review I was more than pumped. I was sent Black Cab, English Rose and Purple Reign and I mean seriously–HOW awesome is the shadow design itself? It makes blending fun and it allows for you to choose as much or as little of any particular shade you want on at a time. I love it! The color schemes are all my basic colors that I usually rotate in between and the product stayed and didn’t crease on me. Best part? They can be used wet or dry and I love the look of the rich pigments when applied wet.

I also tried Match Perfection 3-Tone Blush for light/medium skin. Blush can be hard to use, where EXACTLY does it go? Did I apply it correctly? Does this color even match my face? Etc. Match perfection takes those questions away, All you need is a brush and you can sweep the powder over your face smoothly and you will be left with a nice, blended glow after! No GIANT hot pink or orange streaks I swear.

Next up was the Exaggerate Eye Liner. I’ve never been a fan of liquid liner. I can’t master it and I seriously can put on pencil without even looking. This eyeliner, with it’s felt tip applicator is manageable, smooth and you can apply as much or as little, pressure as you want for a perfect line. I personally am hesitant to use under my eyes, but for sure will use again on my upper lid.

I’m a bit of a mascara snob. I cannot tell a lie. I don’t care about price, brand look, whatever–if the product makes my lashes dull, not lengthy and huge or even the slightest bit dry or flaky I can’t handle it. So anytime I am asked to try a new version other than my current brand, I am a bit hesitant. Rimmel’s Volume Flash Scandal Eyes is a great mascara! The brush is thick and large (a must in my book) and the mascara itself is smooth, extremely black and non drying. I was pleasantly surprised with this I really must say.

Last but not least were samples of lipsticks from the new line designed by Kate Moss. Kate’s collection as it often seems to be referred to, is smooth and luxurious and available in the following colors:

  • 01 – a deep brick red
  • 04 – a royal purple
  • 08 – a dusty rose
  • 12 – a candy coral
  • 14 – a blushed nude

Lipstick always makes me feel a bit self conscious, I generally end up feeling like it’s all over my face (even when it isn’t). This Lasting Finish Lipstick didn’t dry out my lips, end up on my teeth and also moisturized!

The Spring 2012 line from Rimmel London is not only affordable, but also luxe, sleek and totally useful.

Rimmel London products are sold at major drugstores and retailers nationwider.

My Windows media player on my desktop is STOCKED full of playlists I’ve made over the years. I couldn’t tell you the last time I made one, but I can tell you every single reason why the ones that exist were created and why the songs were chosen. I’m working on freelance work today and I felt I needed some old school jams to get me moving instead of Pandora. And now I can’t stop grinning. Sure there’s totally emo playlists on here, but there’s also completely amazing ones. Ones for boys (labeled “for you”, “integral impression”), ones with friends (“ray and fluffy beat boston”, “lauren and mike dance party”, “cheese out”) and ones for myself (“art is the new life”, “woke up annoyed” and “paper writing mix”). It makes me smile, all of them. Even the ones that remind me of people that aren’t around me anymore. It makes me miss pop punk and Peabody’s nasty dirty floors. It makes me miss the old days and thankful for where I am now. But the lists also make me realize how music has always been running through the background of my mind, life and loves.

I often say that it takes a lot of work, time, energy, pain and money to be an attractive female. The things we do to ourselves, the waxing, shaving, haircuts and colors, makeup, clothing, handbags, shall I go on??? I won’t. : ) I went on a business trip to Dallas and one of my coworkers, who is also a good friend of mine, made fun of my giant suitcase the whole time. I simply told him, look, its not easy being pretty. And while I am yes joking, there is a lot a of truth to that statement. Natural beauty does exist, we all have it and I truly do believe that everyone has an attractive quality. Unless of course their soul is ugly but that’s a whole other ballgame. I digress. Anytime that a product comes along that can help shave minutes off a beauty routine, make any beautification process simpler, or can help save money at home rather than at the salon, it is a treat. I was sent a few products from Sally Hansen’s hair removal line to test out and was thrilled to discover some products I knew nothing about.

The first product I tried was the Sally Hansen Brush-On-In Shower Hair Remover. I wanted this product to work so bad it wasn’t even funny. It didn’t at least not for me. I followed the instructions perfectly, down to timing it to exactly two minutes. I huddled in the corner of the shower as to not get the product wet. And nothing. It simply did not work for me. The product didn’t burn my skin, eyes or nose, like I remember the cream hair remover my mom used to use did, but it simply did not work for me. The application was clean, and easy, but I personally saw no results, much to my disappointment. For those interested in trying it, it retails for around $8.00. You may have better luck than me!

The next product I tried was the Microwaveable Eyebrow, Face and Lip Wax Kit. This product also has very clear instructions, is easy to use and comes with mini tweezers and brow guides. If you have not had someone shape your brows for you professionally or have done it yourself, I HIGHLY advise you do it. Brow shapes that match your face are critical. Anyways, this product works, its not overly sticky or hard to manage, but I will leave the waxing of my eyebrows to the professionals. I am NOT skilled enough for regular home upkeep, yet I have friends who will never DREAM of not waxing at home. This product retails for around $9.00 as well and no strips are needed!

The last product I tried was the Creme Hair Remover Kit. I tried this product on my lip and it worked perfectly. It has a light, not potent vanilla scent and when left on the proper amount of time, worked perfectly. I don’t know if I need to note that the hairs on my face are blonde, but it worked perfectly all the same. It also comes with a conditioning lotion which was nice to apply after the removal. For those of your with skin that tends to be more sensitive, this lotion is a lifesaver. This product retails around $6.00.

Sally Hansen hair removal and other beauty products are available at retailers nationwide.
