Monthly Archives: January 2011

There are not enough hours in the day.

For hours, I wish to be able to sit: unmoving, free of distractions, and so engrossed that my brain HURTS when I stop.

This is what awaits me.

And when I start and finish each one, I will be ecstatic.

And I will happily look forward to creating the next pile to devour.

Black and pink are two of my favorite colors. Put them together and it’s even better. The contrast is just right, it’s soft yet edgy, and the amount of possibilities that arise out of this combo are pretty much endless.  Little bit of rock, little bit of femme. Lately when trolling the interwebs, reading magazines, or shopping, I am finding myself attracted to this combo.  And seeing it dressed up, is even better.  I love the look of black cigarette pants paired with a hot pink mohair sweater. Totally retro and timeless. And I love the look of a little black dress paired with a pink cardigan and killer heels. Perfection.  Black and pink work for all ages and all walks of life and I think that’s why the combo passes the test of time.  And we ALL know how fashion recycles, but I don’t think black and pink will ever be out of style.  And here is my new dress I ordered from http://www.modcloth.com yesterday. I can’t WAIT for it to come. xx

I know that this has been blogged about and reposted by a countless number of people, and I don’t care. Kerouac has always been a HUGE influence in my creative life and this list popped into my head today as I feel that I need to revisit its contents.  Heading into the weekend, this is a nice list to let sit and resonate with you. There are certainly a few items I know I forget all too easily. Have a great weekend everyone. xx

**I don’t like Anne Hathaway.

**Weddings are expensive.

**I see why people get depressed after weddings, it’s all anyone wants to talk about.

**It’s easy to draw conclusions, but you honestly have no idea what goes on inside people’s home lives.  They will always show, what they want you to see.

**I am grateful for Mike. And that he puts up with all my fanciful notions, my short attention span, my weirdness, and my moods, makes him even cooler.

**Love having meetings with like minded, creative people who want to do great things in the this city.

**I am sick again. Going home early today though was an amazing life choice.

**Those people in your past will ALWAYS pop up.

**It’s awesome having friends you don’t even need to invite on a trip, they just KNOW subconsciously you are really asking them to go. <3

**I just bought Mighty Ducks 2 on Amazon. Be jealous.

**I swear my debit card really may catch on fire.  Spending freeze is WAY overdue.

And finally, my friend Ray passed this along to me today. Clearly, he has found my wedding day headpiece.  ; )

Bob Dylan. White Cheddar Rice Cakes. Catching up on magazines. Coffee. PJ’s. Sleep. New exercise bike. Wine. American Dad. My notebook. Finding “established” and “put together” blogger’s old blogs and realizing that they are not awesome, but are really instead frantic, mental, WASTO messes. Reading these old blogs delightedly and with much enthusiasm. Looking at books on Amazon and wishing I could buy them all. Wishing I had time to do nothing but read.  Daydreaming. Twitter friends. Twitter conversations. Our President.  Wedding planning. Packing lunches. Sea salt and pepper crutons. Green tea in the morning. Meetings. Making travel plans via text. Being dramatic to friends via text and having them totally get it.  Honorably trying to remain not crabby. Peanut butter pretzels. Finding new blogs.  Bowie. Sharing awesomeness with people.

I can’t focus today. I woke up early, worked out, listened to some music, and am now at work completely in mental shambles. Mind is racing a mile a minute.  I’m in a great mood, so nothing is wrong, it’s just that every single dormant thought in my head decided to wake up. And they all decided to wake up at one time.  It’s a giant cluster of sounds, images, ideas, stories, and thoughts. I’ve been feeling uninspired and unmotivated lately, so maybe it’s time to kick start a bit of creativity.  Maybe the 47,000 in my head are trying to get out for a reason. Quiet the beast as it may be.

Having fair skin means that usually it is hard to find a foundation or powder that exactly matches.  Either you end up with a color line at the jaw bone or you end up looking like you are a gleaming white snow fairy.  As a teenager I had a HORRIBLE time trying to find the product right for me and as an adult I often find that I have to switch up products and shades just to make sure that my face and it’s color stays fresh and accurate.  I have never been able to walk out the door completely fresh faced, my skin tone is uneven and has always just looked generally better with a light coat of product and powder thrown on. I am also prone to oiliness, so coverage is a must.   I was sent Rimmel London’s Lasting Finish 25 Hour Foundation in True Ivory.  Immediately, seeing the word “Ivory” I panicked, as I was thinking I would end up looking like a ghost after applying. I was wrong.  The True Ivory was  a perfect match.  The great thing is that there are 11 available shades of this foundation so finding a match to your skin should be no problem.  The foundation is light, yet not runny or watery.  The smell is also light, unlike some liquid foundations that even smell heavy.  It smells like a nice lotion rather than heavy  makeup. I found that for my skin, blending and applying with my fingers rather than a sponge worked better for distribution.  I was able to get the coverage where I needed it, and in just the right amount. Lasting Finish is very easy to blend and it does not glop on your face.  Lasting finish remained on my face all day, it didn’t streak or melt away, and I was not weighed down by the product at all. Midway through the day, I just needed a dab of powder to control some oil on my nose but that was it.  Lasting Finish really held up.  The product is under $8 dollars too which doesn’t  make it a wallet buster at all.  I was also sent two of my very favorite lipsticks as well. The Moisture Renew Lip Colour has never disappointed me.  Available in 24 shades, SPF 18, and super luxurious, this lipstick is a for sure go to product for me.  This time, I got try Dreamy, a light pinkish sand color with just enough shimmer and Pink Chic, an adorable baby pink that is surprising matte, yet luscious.  These lipsticks are great because they go on smooth and stay on smooth, there is no flaking or running, they actually seem to condition your lips.  And as a huge chapstick junkie, this is perfect for me.  The lipsticks are around $7 dollars as well, so you can really have a great time trying new shades every season.

All Rimmel London products are available at drugstores nationwide.

I have a ton of stuff to do today and as a result I wandering around my house aimlessly, completely lost, and starting task after task then walking away from it. Typical. It will all get done, but typical nonetheless.

And PS? I am currently in love with this song, The Cave, by Mumford & Sons. Enjoy and have a great weekend everyone xoxoxo

This Christmas I was happy to be able to introduce my three nieces, ages 10,9, and 6 to Hard Candy. Hey its NEVER too early to expose children to awesome. Hard Candy had a BUNCH of well priced, adorable combo packs for the holidays that were available at Wal-Mart.  I chose for all three the mini nail polish kit that was priced at 5 dollars. I mean come on, 5 perfectly sized glittery polishes for 5 dollars? I had to do it. My sister had told me that many polish sets for little girls do not last or simply do not show up, so I was super pleased to find these kits for the girls by Hard Candy. Also, my 9-year-old niece went to a class party, and asked my sister to paint each nail a different color. I think that means I picked  a successful gift. :)

I was sent a few items by Hard Candy to review and two of the three products I had never used, thus making me even more excited than usual.  The other, Lash Tinsel, is a tried and true product that I am already a huge fan of.

I had first tried Lash Tinsel when I received a mini sample of it and I was excited to see the bright teal color of UFO. The great thing about this gel based mascara is that it flies for day or night. It is subtle enough to add to you every day look because it doesn’t glob on in huge chunks or gather in only one place, it’s eye-catching and brightening NOT distracting. And of course, Lash Tinsel is great for night because who doesn’t feel a bit more glam when they are sparkling? A quick coat or two of this over your every day mascara is must for those days when you just need to add a bit more to your look. And at under $5, you have even more reason to go swoop one of these up in the color of your choice.

I was also sent Eye Def in Robot, a creamy, silver glittery shadow. Can you tell I really enjoy glitter??? The test tube container is sleek, the applicator wand is thin and easy to use, and the product is around $6 dollars which cannot be beat. I am usually not a fan of cream shadows, the oils in my skin don’t always agree with them, but I found with Eye Def, that it stayed on and continued to shimmer when I used it as a base for shadow and for a quick glaze over already applied shadow. This worked better for my eyes rather than just using the shadow as a stand alone.  The product dries quickly and like Lash Tinsel, will not overwhelm your eyes unless you apply a HEFTY amount. If this is the look you are going for, by all means, apply away!!

The last product I tried was the new and improved Visibly Wet Glossy Lip Pencil in Candy Apple. I honestly did not know what to expect when I first saw it, as I was unsure of how a glossy lip pencil would actually turn out. I was pleasantly surprised. Candy Apple is subtle red, not too glossy, and just enough color. The color is actually a bit matte, but still manages to be bold. I am a little concerned about sharpening the pencil, as I wonder how that will affect the pencil itself and the color distribution, but I’ll worry about that when I get to that point.  I would have liked the color to stay a bit longer, but my lips were not caked with goop and did not get immediately chapped after use. Candy Apple was a nice complimentary color for my fair skin and blonde hair as well, and didn’t completely overtake my face with the color. Also at around $6 dollars, it’s worth a try.

All Hard Candy products can be found at Wal-Mart. www.walmart.com
